U.S. CBP system issues impacting your imports
June 7, 2017

Dear Valued Client,

Over the past year, we’ve been communicating with you regularly in regards to ongoing systems outages affecting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing. Unfortunately, these outages have increased in frequency in recent weeks, leading to delays in the clearance of goods into the United States.

How we’re addressing the issue

To limit the impact to your business, we’ve increased the number of staff available to address the delays caused by the outages, and to ensure you and your carrier partners receive timely updates regarding the status of your shipments.

While information is often scarce, we remain in close communication with CBP so that we’re able to identify issues early on, and provide you with the information you need. We’ll continue to do so for as long as required.

Livingston is also working with CBP to better understand the root cause of these ongoing, unplanned systems outages and the steps being taken to reduce their frequency. We’ll keep you apprised of new developments that may affect your business.

What you can do to help

As we work to better understand the sources of the issues and what can be done to address them, we ask that you support us in our efforts to minimize disruption to your business by providing your documentation as early as possible. This will allow us to reduce the likelihood of shipments not having clearance when carriers reach the border. We also encourage you and your carrier partners to continue to check the Pre-Arrival Processing System (PAPS) tracker app to identify the status of your shipments prior to arrival at the border.

We’ll continue to dedicate additional resources to mitigate the impact these system outages may have on your business. We’ll also continue to work with border-agency officials to reduce the frequency of these interruptions so that you can have greater predictability and reliability in your supply chain.
